The Govt. Model Degree College, Nabarangpur was set up in the year 2016 by the Government of Odisha with the objective of offering higher education to the populace of tribal dominated Nabarangpur District. Previously there were no government colleges in the district and students had to migrate either to adjoining Koraput District or Kalahandi District in search of a government institute to pursue higher education upon completion of their intermediate studies. Spread across an area of 10 acres, the college presents a panoramic view of countryside far from the hustle and bustle of Nabarangpur town with greenery and farmland in its surroundings. Set amidst educational entities such as Government Polytechnic College, Nabarangpur, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV), Hirli, the Govt. Model Degree College, Nabarangpur has been constantly facilitating higher education ever since its inception.

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to this great learning institution. Being the lone Government Degree college in the entire district of Nabarangpur offering UG course in all Arts, Science and Commerce stream, our college holds tremendous importance and endless opportunities, especially for the majority of students belonging to tribal as well as socially & economically backward communities. It is the mainstay of students from rural poor backgrounds to pursue higher education at a government establishment in the most affordable and economical manner. The college caters to the academic needs of the students enrolled into UG programmes across Arts, Science & Commerce streams through 14 departments. The Model Degree College, Nabarangpur is blessed to have a dedicated team of competent faculty members backed by an efficient administration. We constantly seek to offer a safe and supportive environment for our students, ensuring their holistic development not only in academics, but also in curricular & extracurricular activities. Since its inception in 2016 the college has been striving towards maintaining high academic standards, providing students with a wide variety of opportunities in order to help them attain their highest potentials.
Today, India is regarded as an emerging superpower by the world and our economy is growing at a fast rate. However, there are many challenges to address in order to sustain this tempo. The country needs more creative and innovative talents to meet the unprecedented challenges and advantages of the vast opportunities presented by technological changes and globalization. It is thus imperative that we renew our commitments to excellence in education. We are therefore in pursuit of transforming academic vision into reality, empowering the teachers to become change agents. Students are our assets and it is our responsibility to nurture them with quality education & moral values. The great American poet Maya Angelou once said: “I’ ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” To make my students feel enlightened is my supreme responsibility.
